Riverside Nature Park

Barnhill Rock Garden

The rock garden is situated on part of a former nine-hole golf course, which was laid out after the Dundee to Aberdeen railway was built more than a century ago.

Plants have come from many sources including the Scottish Rock Garden Club and Dundee Botanic Gardens. Friends of the Barnhill Rock Garden regularly supply new plants including special donations from its members in memory of loved ones and help to propagate plants and shrubs from seeds and cuttings.

South Road Park

South Road Park is between Menzieshill and Charleston. It is home to the Lynch Sport Centre (link is external), and to outside sport facilities such as football pitches, a Multi-use games area (MUGA) and a bowling green. The allotments have recently been refurbished. The park is landscaped with avenues of trees and paths linking the housing estates.

Myrekirk Park is very near South Road Park, has a football pitch and a woodland play area. There is also an ancient stone circle called Balgarthno, created thousands of years ago, Dundee’s oldest man-made structure.

Stobsmuir Ponds

Stobsmuir Ponds, home to the resident swans (which give the ponds their local name of "Swannie Ponds") is popular for boating and fishing. Walk along the pathways originally planted as the Octocentenary Rose Garden, with a range of roses including varieties from Dundee's twin towns of Alexandria, Orleans and Wurzburg.  Stobsmuir Ponds is the home of the Dundee Model Boat Club who sail on the bottom pond. There is also a play park and grassy areas.

Templeton Woods

Situated just 15 minutes' drive from Dundee city centre and just off the Coupar Angus Road (A923) before Birkhill.

Templeton covers over 150 acres (a football pitch is roughly 2 acres) and is used by a wide range of people and organisations throughout the city for recreation, volunteering opportunities, training for employment and nature conservation. It is a working woodland managed by the Forestry Section.

A range of fun family events take place during the year including "Red Alert!", a chance to find out about red squirrels, "Naturally Artistic" forest craft days as well as "Fungal Forays" and "Hallowe'en Howling" in the autumn.
